Build Rules
1. DO NOT READ ANYTHING INTO THESE RULES, JUST READ THE RULES!! If it does not say you can, YOU CAN'T! Or you will be loaded, your choice! This is a 0 Tolerance show, do not show up excessively built. NO black cars, dark cars must have contrasting letters/numbers. DO NOT paint anywhere on suspension or frame; we will not even inspect your car. - Strip/Remove all materials down to metal shells, which include all glass, plastics, carpets, fabrics, moldings, and such. Remove all decking in wagons, All trailer hitches and braces must be removed.
2. A 12“x 12“roof sign is recommended. It cannot strengthen the car in any way.
3. Cars must be stock unless modifications are stated in the rules, you may remove anything but nothing may be added unless stated. If it does not say you can do it, don’t do it. No painting of the frames, inside the body of the car, or underneath of the car and inside of the trunk.4. Officials’ decisions are final! All cars are subjected to re-inspection at any time.
4. If the car is found to have plates on or in the frame or body that the rules do not allow the car will not be permitted to run. There will be no option to fix this problem.
5. If you hammer/shape/weld on the frame in any manner not covered in the rules you will not be able to run. There is no fixing this.
6. Cars must be 100% stock! No cross breeding the entire drive line. It must be the same make as the car (Chevy to Chevy, Ford to Ford, Chrysler to Chrysler). No aftermarket/built engines or transmissions, with the stock exhaust or headers. The exhaust must be cut off no further back than the transmission. No aftermarket shifters, brake or gas pedals allowed. You Will Be Allowed Simple Push Pull Shifter.
7. The engine must be mounted with the stock mounts in the stock position. No welding, wiring or chaining of mounts. They must be bolted in like from the factory. No homemade cross members. The cross member must be stock and bolted in, not welded. No radiator protectors or holders are permitted. You will be allowed an aftermarket style aluminum radiator, must be mounted in factory position, may be spray foamed in place and 2 ratchet straps no wider than 1.5”, do not get excessive.
8. You Must relocate the fuel tank to the rear floor of the car. You must use a fuel cell or boat tank. If it is a plastic fuel tank it must be bolted or welded to sheet metal in a steel structure. No stock fuel tanks are permitted inside of the car. The fuel cell inside of the car must be securely fastened to the floor with bolts and you must remove the stock tank from under the car. Ratchet straps are not approved to mount the fuel cell. High Pressure Fuel line must be used with double clamps when replacing fuel lines on high pressure fuel systems.
9. Battery must be moved to the passenger front floorboard, 2 batteries max. They must be properly secured and covered in a battery box secured to the floor with no excessive plates with store bought hardware.
10. A simplified wiring harness and tuned ECMS are permitted. GMs and Chryslers will be able to convert TBI/fuel injection systems to carb systems. Must be store bought or OEM parts, must be factory aluminum or cast intakes. If the car has a wiring harness in front of the core support you may move it behind the core support. You cannot remove the body mount bolt to do this.
11. All body mount bolts must be factory stock. No altering is permitted. Do NOT Touch Them. You will be allowed to change the core support body mount to a piece of 5/8” threaded rod, 16” max length with 3 store bought 5/8” nuts, 3 store bought 5/8” washers, 2 1” washer and 1 3”x1/4” flat plate/washer on top of the hood. You will be allowed a 2”x2”x1/4” piece of tubing, round or square 3” long to replace the spacer at that core support, this cannot be attached to the frame or core support in any way, shape or form, DO NOT ABUSE THIS OR YOU WILL LOSE IT!!!
12. The doors must be welded, chained or wired shut (this means 1 method) in no more than 12 spots per door and no more than 12” of 3”x1/8” flat strapping, one loop of chain, or 2 double strains of wire per spot. The wire for the bottom of the doors may go around the frame (this is for using the wire method only). You may use 5/16” chain with a 3/8” store bought bolt no longer than 3”, cannot be welded in any shape or form or 2 strands of #9 wire per spot, cannot be welded either in any shape or form. You can have a door skin on the driver’s door no thicker than 1/8” material and no further than 3” past the door seams on the Drivers front door. DO NOT ABUSE THIS!!!
13. Trunks must be bolted, chained, or wired in no more than 8 places and no more than 2 double stains of wire per spot. Two of these may go around the bumper and/or the frame to keep the bumpers from falling off. If bolting, you must drill thru the deck lid into the drip edge of the trunk weather strip area, no doubling body panels. You will be allowed 3/8”x4” bolts with 2 store bought 7/16” washers, 1 3/8” washer and nut per bolt. The deck lid and tailgate must be in the factory position on the car or it must be completely removed from the car. If you remove the deck lid you are not permitted any wire for your trunk. You will be allowed to change the 2 body bolts just behind the rear axle in the trunk area to 5/8” threaded rod, utilizing 3 5/8” store bought washers, 3 store bought 5/8” nuts and 3 3”x1/4” steel washers, the lower nut and washers must be inside the frame, cannot “pin” the frame. Two (2) 8” x 8” inspection holes must be put in all deck lids within 2” of the center of the quarter panel rain channel. You cannot remove the speaker deck from the car. No welding or adding metal is permitted. If the deck lid is welded you will not run or you will cut the deck lid completely off with no exceptions. You make Tuck the trunk with a 90 Degree bend. After Impound, we are going to allow a 15-minute time limit to body shape the quarter area from the c pillar door seam back to the tail light panel and trunk area, 2 man max per car. Quarters must remain vertical during this. This will be a monitored event with all teams participating.
14. Hoods may be welded, wired, or chained in 6 spots and no more than 2 double stains of wire per spot. No exceptions! You may weld 6 spots of 2”x2”x1/4” 3” long back-to-back with a ½” store bought bolt, 2 washers and a nut per spot. You may use 5/16” chain with a 3” long store bought 3’8 bolt, 2 washers and a nut or 2 strands of #9 wire per spot. It must be sheet metal to sheet metal only. No welding washers for holes. There must be a 12" hole in the hood in case of a fire. You must remove the hood latch. Hoods must be open for inspection.
15. You must have 2 spots of protection from the roof to the windshield cowling. This must be mounted within the first 6” of the roof and or cowling, and consist of 2 strands of 9 wire, a 5/16” store bought chain with no larger than 3/8” bolts, store bought nuts and washers or 2”x1/4” flat steel mounted with 3/8” store bought bolts and hardware with 1 connecting point in-between the 2 bars. Do Not Abuse This Rule or you will go to 9 wire.
16. Any tire and rim combos are permitted, and must be round and rubber.
17. You can have a 4-point safety cage installed in the car. This will consist of 2 side bars running from the a pillar to the b pillar, not to extend further that 10” behind the b pillar and not to exceed more than 60” in total length and must be 8” off the floor, a bar behind the driver’s seat no further than 6” behind the b pillar and one running across the dash area of the car, both connecting into the side bars only. If you choose to not run a 4-point safety cage, you must install a back seat bar that attaches to the B pillar, no closer than 8” to the floor, this is mandatory.
You MUST have a rollover bar, but it must run straight across and can only be welded to the top side of the side bars no further than 6” behind the driver’s seat. The Halo bar may be attached to the roof in 2 spots with no bigger than a ½” bolt 5” long with store bought washers. You are permitted a gas tank holder off the back bar that can be no wider than 24” and must be 10” away from all sheet metal, with exception of 6” off the floor pan directly below the fuel tank, NO exceptions or you are not permitted to run!
The max size cage material is 2”x6”x1/4” tubing.
18. The car’s factory springs and shocks are what can be used. No solid suspension. Screw in spring risers is permitted. No wire, chains, or any weld on the rear ends or the rear spring pockets. The car must bounce. The front bumper cannot be any higher than 21” from the bottom of the bumper. The rear frame height cannot be lower than 15” measured at the rear most body mount location. You must utilize the factory suspension and steering for the YEAR/make/model of car you are building. You may limit the rear suspension travel with 1 5/16” chain wrapped around the rear end housing to the hump area with a 3/8” store bought bolt 3” long and store bought hardware on each side of the differential housing. This may run through the spring to hold the spring in place from falling out.
19. Any OEM car bumper is permitted except for Chrysler pointy bumpers or you may utilize a 60” long piece of 4”x4”x1/4” square tube with no point or added metal. OEM Bumpers may be seam welded, and loaded. You may also use a DEC, SMW or Adept bolt together style bumper, these may be seam welded, no added metal.
Bumper mounting, Pick one way.
A: You may remove the shock and cut the front frame off square 1” in front of the forward most core support mount bracket on all FOMOCO products. Gm’s may unbolt the shock, dispose and square the frame up and weld the bumper directly, must maintain 1” in front of core support mounting body bushing. Chrysler may dispose of bumper brackets and square frame up and weld directly.
B: You may collapse and weld the bumper directly to the bumper shock, you may weld the bumper shock after collapse, you may not remove the shock from the frame and slide back into the frame, it must utilize factory mounting points and hardware. You will be allowed a 3”x6”x1/4” flat plate to utilize in mounting the bumper to the frame. Do NOT Abuse this!!!
C: You may leave the Bumper shock in factory position and weld the bumper directly to the shock, you may weld the shock solid, and you will be allowed a 3”x6”x1/4” flat plate to utilize in mounting the bumper to the frame. Do NOT Abuse this!!!
D: Rear bumper mounting, you must maintain factory rear bumper brackets/shocks, you may collapse and weld. You will be allowed a 3”x6”x1/4” flat plate to attach to the frame, Do NOT weld to the body.
20. You may dimple or notch the rear frame rails, no welding permitted.
21. You may weld the spider gears in the rear end to make it POSI. You must use factory rear end housing for the car you are running. Any gear is permitted. You must run the stock housing and axles for the make and model of the car. Rear end bracing is not permitted.
22. Cars must have and maintain functioning brakes at all times on at least one axle.
FIX IT PLATES
1. All cars are permitted four 4”x4”x1/8” square fix it plates installed with ½” weld bead, 2 per side of frame. Once plates are put on, they may not be cut off and moved. There must be a 1” gap between the welds of these plates, the welds can touch, but cannot overlap.
2. Fix it plates may not connect the body to the frame, subframe or K-member or used as a kicker and or attachment point to the cage or driveline.
